The Neurodiverse Family Support Network (previously known as Autism in motion) was started back in 2015 by a small group of parents all who themselves have Neurodiverse families. We were frustrated by the lack of support in the area for families like our own and realised that if we were struggling, then others would be too!

We started by setting up a small coffee mornings, for parents and carers to come together for support and share knowledge and experiences in an understanding environment.  We organised social event for the families such as Fire station trips, going out for meals together and our coach trips to Chester zoo and Gullivers world were legendary! This developed the foundation of what autism in motion was built upon.

Our small community has grown year on year, and we have developed close relationships with not only our families but with other organisations such as Alder Hey, University of Liverpool, Edge Hill University, ADHD Foundation, YPAS, MYA, Sefton Park Palm House,  Down syndrome Liverpool, Splice, SWRAC Merseyside, Epic Day Centre, Lark Lane Day Centre, Rebound Therapy Centre, The Brain Charity, Strawberry Fields, Children’s Centres, Local Schools and Local Museums and other entertainment providers.

This ‘small group’ now has more than 10,000 families from the local and wider area accessing our services either face to face or online on a regular basis.

Early 2024 we took a huge leap and decided to change our name to ‘The Neurodiverse Family Support Network’. We’ve made this decision as we believe our new name is better suited to the support our organisation currently offers. The name “Autism in Motion Liverpool” led many people to believe we only support Autistic people -living in Liverpool. But, this is incorrect. We are a positive focused inclusive organisation, offering support, education and fostering peer to peer relationships for neurodiverse children and young people aged 2-25, and their families.

Our mission is to create a future where Neurodiversity is valued and unique minds are celebrated. We celebrate and embrace the unique strengths that each individual who accesses our service brings to our community, whilst also addressing any challenges that they may face with an empathetic and supportive approach. We offer a safe and welcoming space where families can thrive!

As a team we are dedicated to empowering and educating, to build a world where neurodiversity is not only accepted but celebrated. We offer a range fun yet therapeutic age-appropriate activities for children and young people, Early Years, primary, secondary and our Moving on group for 16-25. We provide a safe and fun space to come together over the school holidays  and afterschool and share fun experiences such as arts and crafts, cookery, sports and outdoor games and yoga. We love nothing more than a day out together as a group and try to have at least 2-3 big days out each year along with smaller regular trips to the cinema, museum etc to ensure the children and young people have the same experiences and opportunities as their neurotypical friends.
